The Boucles de la Mayenne is a professional road cycling race held annually in the Mayenne department of France. It has a rich history dating back to 1975, making 2025 its 50th edition.
Initially, the race was a regional event, but it has grown significantly over the decades. From 2006 to 2019, it was organized as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. In 2020, it became part of the new UCI ProSeries, a higher tier of professional cycling events, although the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The race typically consists of a prologue and three stages, covering around 545-550 kilometers across the Mayenne region. It’s known for its undulating terrain, which often leads to aggressive racing and tight general classification battles.
While specific founders aren’t widely publicized in the same way as, for example, the Tour de France, the race has been consistently organized by local entities and cycling enthusiasts in the Mayenne region since its inception. Over the years, it has attracted increasingly strong fields, including teams from the World Tour, solidifying its position as one of the important stage races in France.
Notable past winners include multiple champion Serge Coquelin (with 3 victories) and more recently, riders like Mathieu van der Poel and Arnaud Démare. The continued support and enthusiasm from the local population and the beautiful Mayenne landscapes contribute to its enduring appeal.
The Département de la Mayenne is the French département with the ordinal number 53. It is located in the north-west of the country in the Pays de la Loire region between Le Mans and Rennes and is named after the river Mayenne. The capital of the department is Laval.
