The MILAN – SANREMO AMATEUR non-competitive cycling event repeats the same route followed by the great champions of the Spring Classic.
This makes it the longest amateur cycling event in the world, covering some 296 km from the gates of Milan, across the plains of Lombardy and Piedmont, to climb the Turchino and thus gain the Ligurian Riviera. From Genoa, it then skirts the Ligurian Sea until the finish in Sanremo, which is only conquered by first trying your hand at the legendary Cipressa and Poggio di Sanremo climbs.
The MILANO – SANREMO AMATEUR non-competitive race was born in 1970 on the initiative of the Unione Ciclistica Sanremo and is Italy’s most emblazoned cycling event.
The last editions have seen athletes from all over Europe at the start, with the participation also of athletes from countries as far away as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Brazil, the United States and Canada.
