U23-Race – UCI category 1.2
After a three-year break due to the pandemic, the U23 edition of Eschborn-Frankfurt will celebrate its comeback on May 1. More than 160 young riders are expected at the cycling classic. Like the WorldTour pros, the talented riders will start in Eschborn, ride through the Taunus hills to the finish line in front of the “Alte Oper”.
Record Participation in the U23 Race of the German Classic
Eschborn-Frankfurt continues to set new standards – also in the development category. The 2025 U23 race will see a record 28 teams at the start line, representing the widest and most international field in the race’s history. From WorldTeam development squads to ProContinental teams and German amateur clubs – this race showcases the full spectrum of emerging cycling talent.
To accommodate the overwhelming interest and give more teams the opportunity to compete, team sizes were reduced to six riders. This allows for a more diverse field while keeping within the race’s maximum rider limit. Riders from ten different nations will take part, with a strong showing from German teams.
Among the highlights: the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe Rookies, Visma | Lease a Bike Development, and the Israel Premier Tech Academy. Several strong German Continental teams, such as Lotto Kern-Haus PSD Bank, Rembe – rad-net and Storck – Metropol, will also compete. The route poses a serious challenge: 129 kilometers and more than 2,000 meters of climbing – including two demanding ascents of the Feldberg.
This U23 classic has long been a launchpad for future pros. Former U23 winners and podium finishers include Mads Pedersen, Fabio Jakobsen, Kaden Groves and Nils Politt. Anyone who shines here often goes on to race at the very top level.
