- Sponsorship by Hella (2004): The following year, in 2004, Hella became the title sponsor, and the event officially adopted its current name, “hella hamburg halbmarathon.”
- Start Location: Since 2003, the race has started on the Reeperbahn in St. Pauli, a vibrant and well-known area of Hamburg.
- Growth and Popularity: Over the years, the hella hamburg halbmarathon has grown significantly, attracting thousands of participants annually and establishing itself as a major event in the German running calendar. It consistently sees over 10,000 runners and has even broken participation records.
- Cancellations: Like many events globally, the 2020 edition of the race was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The hella hamburg half marathon promises once again to be a spectacular sporting event for Hamburg. As one of the “pure” half marathons in Germany, this fast and classic city race leads past numerous Hamburg tourist attractions and is the second biggest stand alone half marathon in Germany. The start will take place at 9:00 a.m. (!) on the Reeperbahn, accompanied by the sound of samba drums, while the skaters will head out on the course 30 minutes earlier at 8:30 a.m. Over 40 artists, musicians, DJs and cheering crews are waiting for you around the course and will bring you to our spectacular finish line at the Expo in Hamburg.
