The game
Lacrosse is a team sport in which a hard rubber ball (the size of a tennis ball) is played with a stick. The aim of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. The ball can be carried with the stick, passed and shot at the goal. If the ball falls to the ground, the team that picks it up first wins possession.

Depending on the discipline, the game is played on different field sizes, surfaces and sometimes according to different rules.

History of the sport
Lacrosse has a long history. According to historians, it was invented by the indigenous population of North America and has been played there in various forms for several thousand years. In the 19th and 20th centuries, this developed into the modern sport that is played worldwide today.
The historical development also resulted in major differences between men’s and women’s lacrosse.
